Meet the Doctors: Prosthodontist in Philadelphia

Joseph B. Breitman, DMD, MS, FACP

Philadelphia Dentist & Prosthodontist A Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, Dr. Joseph Breitman is a 1977 graduate of the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and a 1979 graduate of the Prosthodontic Specialty Program at Temple University where he continued on to receive a post doctoral master’s in Dental Materials/Oral Biology the following year. Dr. Breitman has maintained a successful prosthodontic practice for 41 years while continuing a strong academic affiliation having taught at both of his alma maters. Dr. Breitman currently is an Associate Professor at the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. He is a published author on topics in prosthodontics, and is sought after as a speaker, nationally and internationally.

In 2014 Dr. Breitman received the Private Practice Award from the American College of Prosthodontists.

Since he was eleven years old, Dr. Breitman has trained in Korean Martial Arts. In 1971, he was awarded a first dan black belt by the World TaeSooDo Association. After a hiatus during college and dental school, Dr. Breitman returned to training and was awarded a first dan black belt by the Kukkiwon (The Korean National Gym) in 1988. Continued diligence in training and teaching Taekwondo has enabled Dr. Breitman to rise to the high rank of seventh dan black belt from the Kukkiwon of the World Taekwondo Federation. As a volunteer, Dr. Breitman has run a Taekwondo program for the Huntingdon Valley Activities Association for many years. The program has over thirty students currently. Dr. Breitman is also an avid amateur musician, playing bagpipes, flute and piccolo.

Dr. Breitman lives in Huntingdon Valley with his wife Barbara. They have three children.

Leela S. Breitman, DMD, MS, FACP

Dr. Leela S. Breitman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. She received her Prosthodontic Speciality Program certificate and a Master’s in Prosthodontics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as the Chief Resident during her time at UNC. She was awarded a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Studio Art from Swarthmore College.

Outside of clinical work, Dr. Breitman co-founded and serves as the CEO of My Dental Key (MDK), a dental EdTech startup improving global dental education. MDK has earned numerous accolades and grants, including Harvard’s President’s Innovation Challenge.

Dr. Breitman’s dedication to redefining dental education and her advanced training in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics equips her to provide top-tier care to patients in the greater Philadelphia area. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys painting, running, and biking.

Natalie Amoa, DMD, MS

Dr. Natalie Amoa is a board-certified periodontist and implant dentist. A native of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Dr. Amoa graduated from Agnes Scott College where she completed her undergraduate studies, majoring in biology. After college, Dr. Amoa moved to Philadelphia to begin her dental training at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, where she obtained a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) as well as a certificate in Periodontics and Master’s of Science in Oral Biology. 

Dr. Amoa is currently practicing in the Philadelphia area. She previously worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and previously was a part-time adjunct clinical professor at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.

Dr. Amoa lives in South Philadelphia with her husband and sons. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying new food, and spending time with family.

Philadelphia Prosthodontist Wins Prestigious National Award

PHILADELPHIA — The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), through its awards program, recognized Philadelphia Prosthodontist Joseph B. Breitman, D.M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P., for “outstanding and substantial contributions to the specialty.” Dr. Breitman was presented with the Private Practice Award during the 44th Annual Session of the American College of Prosthodontists in New Orleans on November 7, 2014.

Dr. Breitman received this lifetime achievement award for providing advanced levels of dental care in his Northeast Philadelphia office and for his dedication to teaching dental students in local professional schools. In earning this award, Dr. Breitman was described as “an esteemed academic and an innovative prosthodontist who excels in providing the best patient care.”

Dr. Breitman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine and Temple University’s Prosthodontic Specialty Program. He also received a post-doctoral master’s degree in dental materials/oral biology from Temple University. Dr. Breitman is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, an ACP fellow and an associate clinical professor of the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University.
