When teeth develop during their formation, lobes come together very often. These lobes do not coalesce completely.
When this occurs, tiny pits or grooves remain that can allow decay to occur because tooth brushing cannot reach into these small spaces.
In order to prevent this decay from occurring, a plastic coating can be applied that is set by curing it with intense light.
